Mike Starner is a Certified Utility Safety Professional with 28 years of experience in the field. Mike began his career in 1994 with the Asplundh Tree Expert Company clearing and removing trees from utility right-of-ways. In 2002, Mike was hired by Baltimore Gas & Electric Company (BGE) for an entry-level position as a Street Light Servicer. When the opportunity arose, Mike entered the Distribution Construction Training program where he became a Class A Lineman. He progressed through his career path including Service Operator (Troubleman) and Overhead Crew Lead before being promoted into management in 2010. Mike lead a variety of organizations at BGE, including Substation Construction & Maintenance, Regional Electric Operations, and Safety. It was during this time that Mike was bit by the safety “bug”. Influencing behavior and creating safe/effective work conditions is very rewarding for Mike. Mike left BGE in 2016 to pursue a career as a contractor working for the Davis H. Elliot Company with responsibility for safety and operational performance in the Capital Division located in Baltimore, MD. Just prior to coming to work for NECA, Mike was working with TechPro Power Group, a new enterprise providing electrical maintenance, testing & commissioning services across the US. In this role, Mike was responsible for developing a corporate safety program while acting in the interest of TechPro’s various operating companies.
